Medical Separation Information

A medical separation / discharge is an involuntary termination of the individual’s employment by the ADF on the grounds of permanent or at least long-term not being medically fit to service, or to serve on operation deployment. These medical separations from the ADF are made on the recommendation of a Medical Employment Classification Review Board (MECRB) which examines the member and their medical records for the purposes of determining whether they are incapacitated in the long term, for continued service in Defence.

If you have sustained injuries through your service and are in the process of a medical separation, it is imperative that you consider submitting a claim with the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) for liability of these conditions as soon as practicable.
